"Ladies and gentleman, our humble apologies for the delay today. We are now circling over Oasis, we request you fasten your seat belts, close the tray tables in front of you and lighten the windows as we prepare for our descent." The air hostess repeated the request in Arabic.
She grit her teeth, her fingernails turned white as she grabbed the arm rest next to her seat. She prepared for the stomach drop feeling that she was very sensitive to during flight descents. Zaniah closed her eyes, they'd soon be in Oasis. The girl enjoyed that feeling usually, she found it exhilarating, often seeking it on thrill rides, like roller coasters with sharp drops. But today it was accompanied with a different kind of a sinking feeling, accompanied with a dull pounding in her chest, the unpleasant kind.
She mused about the biological source of this feeling, it was adrenaline, her flight or fight response, but what enabled her to differentiate the good kind from the bad? Zaniah figured she didn't like being helpless. When she chose to do something a little dangerous, borne out of her adrenaline-junkie tendencies or curiosity, she was putting herself in harm's way after calculated risk, what she had to do today... was not something she would ever opt to do.
One could think she was overreacting. The siblings were just visiting their estranged dad afterall, but Zaniah hated it. She hated pretending like she loved him and cared for him... Or even that she had forgotten and forgiven his indiscretions, the big one and the multiple small ones. They weren't in any real danger, their father had been attempting to turn a leaf for the better, but he was just so... stuck up, he could never really see his own fault.
Zaniah swallowed, trying to relax, there was no reason to not seek some thrill from the descend that would follow. The girl redid her hair which was a mess after the decently long flight. "He isn't going to be happy about having to wait on us... Even though there wasn't anything we could've done..." She muttered, more to herself as she furiously pressed the button to lighten the windows. "At least we got some extra time to ourselves" she added turning to her brother. then she turned to her brother. This was one of those rare occasions when Z was probably having a tougher time than her. She reached for his shoulder and tapped it "You ok?" she asked simply, the sincerity and concern apparent in her eyes.
