The girl knew what he was referring to when he spoke of the bite. But she ignored him, her memories of that night were crystal clear too. But the last thing they needed to venture down that bitter lane. She just nudged him playfully, hoping to pull out his normal self again, which had been buried under all the slanders and threats their father so casually threw.
Once he had dealt with the paperwork and called her over, she let out an excited squeak. Zaniah was quick to grab the keys from him, grinning like a jackass. The driver had warned him that only a person with a license must drive, but he was happy to ignore stupid rules for her. With glee, she jumped into the driver's seat barely managing to wait till Z got into the passenger's side. The engine was already whirring by the time he closed his door.
"Ok! Here." She said handing him the phone. "You guide me, I'll drive." she ordered, Getting her feet ready on the pedals. Soon, the car started, with a small hiccup, which she waived off the jerky start with a slightly guilty smile. "Whoops" She muttered trying to calm herself and not make mistakes again. Finally, she managed to make it run rather smoothly. It hovered and picked up speed as the thrill took over.
Not only was she in control and driving, she was also breaking the law and her mother's rules. Something which sent a clean adrenaline shot through her. Zaniah sped up, probably touching the speed limit, wondering if she should add another broken law to the list. Her turns were a little sharper than others. Zaniah almost nicked a bike, but even if she had hit it, these days all the bikes had self-balancing mechanisms, so it wouldn't be all that bad... The chance to drive, just something new and the five days that stretched in front of them, did a lot to take the edge that had taken her over after the recent interaction with their father.
Her reflexes were pretty quick and she seemed to almost have better control at higher speeds, than lower. which were definitely jerkier. At the red light, she barely manage to halt in time, almost hitting the bumper in front of her. "Whoops again" she said, letting out a peal of laughter and turning to her brother. "No no, there is no way we can tell mom," she said laughing to herself, Zaira would definitely kill her. "How far are we?" She was pretty sure they should be nearing their destination and was glad that Z had the patience to let her do this. He was the one guy she trusted would do everything he could to ensure she was happy. It made her feel safe to have him around, even doing the most dangerous things...
