Real Name:Ana Amari
Nickname:
-
Age:60
Nationality:Egyptian
Occupation:Sharpshooter
Base of Operations:Cairo, Egypt
Affiliation:Overwatch (former)
Voice:Shohreh Aghdashloo
Personality:Ana is a woman of strong and often stubborn personality. She invests very deeply in the people and causes closest to her and would fight relentlessly for them. She holds duty, honor, justice and always striving to be the protector of those in need in high regard and prided herself on living up to these ideals.
Those who did not know her well could at first find her no-nonsense personality and dry sense of humor off-putting, but upon getting to know her would see her warmer side. She’s the sort who always remembered little bits and pieces about people and often found little ways to make her teammates feel acknowledged and appreciated. At the same time though, she was not one to sugarcoat anything or baby anyone and is not afraid to say things as she sees them or dispense some tough love.
It was this same deep caring and investment that slowly wore on her over time however. The eager, proud woman slowly changed into one weary and tired of war, of losing friends and taking lives. She never came out and said it exactly, she had never been one to easily admit to her own struggles or more vulnerable emotions. And her skills were still needed in the field. But over time the feelings became harder to ignore and push aside, leading up to her presumed death.
Upon her return she still carries much of the world-weariness that comes with her experiences, but also seems to have re-found her drive and fire and the sense that there is still more for her to do.

Back Story: Coming from a long family history of honored and decorated military members, it is no surprise that Ana followed in their footsteps as soon as she was old enough. She was particularly talented with a sniper rifle and over the years she gained a reputation as many said the best sniper in the world.
This brought her to the attention of the newly forming Overwatch. Given the opportunity to on a global scale take on the threat that had decimated her home country, she eagerly accepted and became one of the Strike Team’s founding members. In the years following the Omnic Crisis she continued to serve as the Team’s second in command and remained active in the field, feeling her skills were better put to use there.
It was also during this time that she became romantically involved with Reinhardt, and the two of them had a daughter, Fareeha, together. She loved her daughter dearly, but often found herself absent due to work. When she was at home she took it upon herself to raise her daughter with the same strengths and values she held dear, teaching her to be strong, skilled, self-reliant and honorable. Contention between them grew as Fareeha grew older however, and wanted to follow in her family and mother’s footsteps which Ana resisted and argued against. She had found herself starting to feel the weight of her work and life and did not want the same burdens for her daughter.
This was paired with Overwatch being brought under public scrutiny, people rallying against them and those they’d once held as heroes they now viewed as a threat. They tried to work through as best they could, and continued on doing what they could, taking things a day at a time with their future now uncertain.
Then one mission changed everything. She allowed herself to become distracted, as well as caught off guard when she caught sight of who had been behind the opposing sniper mask and it cost her and her team dearly. Her injury was serious and much following it remains a blur of pain and medication and unconsciousness. When she finally came back to feeling fully herself she started to piece together what had happened. She did not know how she’d come to be in this hospital, who had brought her here, if the rest of her team knew. It was during her recovery that the news was splashed with the story of the destruction of Overwatch headquarters, and the death of several of it’s prominent members. Heartbroken at the loss of her dear friends and the organization that she had devoted so much of her life to, she could not help but blame herself for much of it. If she had not hesitated, if she had been more careful, if she hadn’t gotten hurt she might have been there, she might have been able to do something, to make a difference. She had failed them all, she didn’t know that she could return to what was left, to face the consequences and pick up the pieces. In her grief and pain she decided it was for the best if she just slipped away. It would hurt those left behind at first, but in the end it would be better this way.
The last few years have been spent more or less wandering, never staying in one place or doing one thing for very long. But over time she came to regret her decision to leave. Running had been a coward’s choice, one that carried no respect or care to those she’d left behind, no matter how much it had felt that way at first. And there were still so many problems, so many things that could be done. She agonized over the choice, but in the end decided to return, for better or worse. She hopes to repair at least some of the damage she knows that she caused with her former teammates and her daughter by disappearing. She knows it will not be easy, or might not happen at all, but she doesn’t want to continue on as she has been, and knows she has to at least try.
