Janne van Buuren
BASIC
Full Name: Janne Maria van Buuren
Nickname: Deadline
Age: 31
Nationality: Dutch
Current Location: Traveling to interesting places - home base in Utrecht, the Netherlands
Occupation: Conflict Reporter
PHYSICAL
Height: 172 cm
Hair: Red, curly, and short
Eyes: Bright blue and filled with opportunism
Build: Thanks to her past as a professional track runner, Deadline has really strong legs. Her tall, muscular build helps her run around with portable cameras and microphones all the time.
Style: Deadline's work outfit is functional and durable. It's a black-and-white, partially bullet resistant suit, covered in cameras, lighting, and microphones. She has multiple versions of it though, in case black and white would make her stand out too much. There's one in desert camo, forest camo, urban camo, and a few for different weather conditions, like underwater, snow, or space gear.
Whenever she isn't working, Deadline likes to wear simple, comfortable clothes. Usually a sweater or a t-shirt, and some jeans will suffice. These often go together with a pair of sunglasses, since her regular appearances on international television have made her a minor celebrity.

PSYCHOLOGICAL
Strengths: If you are looking to be well aware of your surroundings on the battlefield, Deadline is your woman. Her cameras will help you to see enemies that are otherwise out of sight. Aside from that, Deadline is a really powerful interviewer, who knows how to pull answers out of the thoughest people. This, combined with her slightly dangerous love for taking risks, makes her great at collecting information.
Weaknesses: As mentioned earlier, Deadline loves taking risks. This isn't just a strength, for it'll often puts her in less than favourable positions. She also doesn't like keeping her nose out of other peoples' business, making her a bit annoying to those who want to keep secrets. Combat-wise, Deadline isn't as strong as she is at reporting. She has fought a fair amount of terrorists - both omnic and human - but she's no Soldier 76. She's highly dependent on her team, when dealing with enemies that are more than your average grunt.
Fears: Not being remembered after she's gone, losing loved ones, and another omnic uprising.
Overall:
Deadline is a perfect reporter. She's nosy, quick, extrovert, and is good at seeing connections. That's why she's still reporting these days, no matter what's happened in the past. At this point in her life, there's very little that's more important to her than her job to report what's going on in the world. She feels a real responsibility to inform people about the dangers in this world, as to help them stay safe, as well as influencing them to vote for political parties that prevent conflicts like the ones she reports on.
BACKSTORY
Past: Young Janne grew up in a small city in the Netherlands. Back in the day, she didn't care much for school. Instead, Janne put all of her efforts in becoming the top runner in her track running team. Through hard work and lots of effort, she managed to make it to the national finals, and eventually even to the Olympics. But knowing she couldn't be an Olympian for very long, Janne eventually shifted her efforts to her education. More specifically: journalism. The young woman eventually found a job as the camerawoman of a small conflict reporting team, working for the Dutch, national news station. Together with a reporter named Chantal, and Dennis and Hassan from lighting and sound, she formed a close team.
The four of them were the go-to team concerning reporting, during the last years of the omnic crisis. Together, they went to the middle of the action, showing the terrors of war and interviewing the heroes who tried to stop it. But during one of the last battles of the crisis, things went wrong, when the team got suddenly caught in an ambush. Though Janne, Dennis, and Hassan got saved by a brave team of Overwatch agents, Chantal got hit. Moments later, she died before being able to get the medical attention she needed.
Devastated by the loss of her dear friend, Janne went to her supervisor and tried to convince her of letting her work the crisis reporting on her own. Sadly for Janne, her supervisor didn't agree to this, and offered her the option to either keep working with a new reporter, or to leave the Dutch national news station. Janne went for the second option, knowing she'd get her way if she kept trying. Through crowdfunding, Janne created her very own crisis news website, as well as buying equipment fit for a one-woman reporting team. A few years later, "Deadline" would globally be known as a reliable source on conflict news.

Present: These days, Deadline travels around the globe, trying to report on conflict. But instead of just reporting on it, she now helps out solving the conflict, by joining the good side in battle.
ABILITIES
DEFENSE
Melee, Punch: No technology is needed to give a quick jab at someone's face. Though Deadline isn't a black belt of anything, she has followed some hand-to-hand combat training, to make sure she'll survive close range attacks.
Ranged, Semi-Automatic Pistol: Deadline is always armed with an automatic pistol, as well as carrying a couple of spares on her, just in case. This gun fires three rounds in quick succession, every time the trigger is pulled. It doesn't do as much damage as plasma weapons or fully automatic guns, but is can take out minor threats.
Passive, Live Broadcast: Thanks to the multiple cameras mounted on Deadline's body, all allies (with proper eyewear) will be able to see enemies through walls, as long as they're in Deadline's cone of view. This doesn't affect invisible targets.
Ability 1, Newsflash: The mobile lighting on Deadline's suit beeps for a few seconds, before creating a blinding flash around her. Anyone in close proximity with Deadline in their sight will be blinded for about a second. They'll still be able to move, use abilities, or attack, but without being able to see what's going on.
Ability 2, Perspective Change: A portable teleporter allows Deadline to switch places with any enemy up to fifteen meters in front of her. This is instantanious and teleports Deadline to the enemy's place, while teleporting the enemy to Deadline's spot. This ability takes some time to build up, but can be a great way to trap enemies, invade enemy lines, confuse people, or escape from danger.
Ultimate, Mass Surveillance: A swarm af camera drones flies out of a tube located on Deadline's back, up into the sky. From there, they target and analyze all enemies in her line of sight, including invisible targets. All allies will see these targets as having a glowing, purple overlay. Due to the highlighted weak points, all damage done to these enemies will be doubled.
To avoid this ultimate, the enemy has to get out of Deadline's sight, or take her out. Similar to ults like Soldier 76's, the ultimate doesn't get cancelled by getting hacked or stunned, since the drones are already up in the air.
