Tariq is a man who has always seen the world with a 'glass half full' kind of perspective, outwardly kind and optimistic, but with a sensible level of realism. He is not idealistic, but is fairly good at finding the silver lining in stormy situations. He is a rounded and open minded man who tends to excel in observation and seeing all sides of a situation before making a final call or jumping in. Tariq prefers to see every side of a story before deciding who is right or wrong, and is not above taking a middle ground if neither 'side' proves themselves to be in the right.
Because of this, he is a very attenative listener, content to wait in silence for someone to finish their thought before interjecting with his own. Tariq is never one to talk over someone who is trying to speak, but is unafraid to interject if he thinks that someone is being out of line of uneccessarily harsh or hostile, he is very much a peace keeper in many situations, even though he is not afraid of using violence if peace and understanding cannot be found.
While not brash or arrogant, Tariq is a very confident person, he is sure of himself and his place, and is not the type to put himself down when praised. He knows he's clawed tooth and nail to get where he is, and he is eager for any chance to prove himself in whatever role he is taking.
He is a very empathetic person, particularly towards women and the things they go through, having been raised by a single mother with the world against her. He is fiercly protective of the people in his life, and laying down his life would be an easy choice if the situation called for it.
While his observational skills and patience makes him excellent for Recon. and scouting, he is sometimes prone to hesitate when he should rush in, he is a logical and scientific brain first and a combat brain second, and this can sometimes put him in uneccessary danger simply because he looked for too long when he should have leapt.
He is often the first to admit when he's done wrong, and takes critisizm in stride. He doesn't back down in a fight or argument if he knows with certainty that he is in the right, but he will also submit and admit to being wrong without fuss if proven to be.
Background/Bio:
Born in the slums of Cairo to a single mother with barely a penny to her name, there were many who told her to give up her baby boy, that there was no way she could juggle feeding herself and her son, and when she bucked their urgings with stubborn intent, there were many who called her selfish. But Jomana Zuberi perservered, balancing working and nurturing the young Tariq against everyone who told her she couldn't do it. One would think that he would view his childhood in a bad light from such low beginnings, but Tariq would tell you otherwise, for him, his childhood was happy, and despite never having much, he feels that he always had what he needed the most. Much of who he is today comes from the things his mother taught him, and he owes himself as a person to her.
As Tariq grew, it became clear fast that he had a fairly brilliant mind, only lacking the polish that schooling could provide, so Jomana pulled back her sleeves, and worked to send her young son to school, aiming to give him opportunities that her life had never given her. School for Tariq was a fulfilling experience, and he ate up every drop of knowlege that he could during his time there. He left for university with a scholarship in Security Tech., and a bright future in that field.
During his university days, he landed a job with an IT department, the job at the time was grunt work at best, but it was a foot in the door for the brilliant young man, and it gave him the funds to purchase a home nearer to where he was going to school for his mother, the first real home she'd ever lived in.
There were several years spent taking ever class he could in the field he was pursuing, and he was beginning to impress the higher ups at the company that he was working for. Eventually, at 33, by now out of University, Tariq was given a place working on the God AI "Anubis". For two years he worked with a team of equally brilliant minds, shoulder to shoulder, as they developed the creation. And when he was 35, he became a part of a team tasked to put a stop to it.
While his primary role now is working alongside Fareeha Amari, his captain, Tariq does still lend his hand with IT when needed, as that was his passion first and foremost. Tariq keeps very close contact with his mother, paying visits to her as often as he can find time to.
