Real Name: Kotone Shimada
Nickname: Koto, Baachan
Age: 60
Nationality: Japanese
Occupation: Shimada Castle Head Guard
Base of Operations: Shimada Castle, Hanamura
Affiliation: Shimada Clan (Such as it is.)
Voice: OHOHO
Personality:
Tough love definitely sums her up. She believes that struggle is the only way to truly grow as a person, but will object if said struggle is in extreme degrees. She can be surprisingly strong, despite her age and appearance. Koto has excellent manners, and won't hesitate to scold others if they lack those manners. She does not give up easily, but can be easily swayed by close family.
There is nothing that makes her happy than fighting. It's been her calling ever since she was a girl to fight. And she teaches her methods as a ninja to others with the same passion. Something that she hates more than anything is being told she cannot join the fight due to her age. She doesn't let something like that stop her. Rarely does she listen to anyone who tries to tell her what to do. She is the one who gives orders, not receives them. To this end she can clash with figures of authority.
Her (former) husband has long since died, and she is quite the man-eater.
Back Story:
Born a Shimada, Kotone was the only child born into the family, as her mother had been assassinated shortly after her birth. It was decided that the next heir would have to be someone outside of the family that Kotone would have to marry. It became apparent that she was not interested in being a mere housewife, however. Years would go by as Kotone pleaded with her father to allow her to become a ninja, like he was. When she was finally allowed to train, it was discovered she excelled. Not only that, but she enjoyed the violence to a certain degree.
Kotone would become the Shimada clan's first (and currently only) female heir. She did get married, but it was more a marriage of convenience and necessity than any real love. To give birth to children, and nothing more. The many battles Koto got into on her family's behalf caused her to be littered in scars that are still apparent today. Her time must pass, and she watches as her son becomes the leader of the Shimada clan. Though she asked to fight, she was deemed too old to continue her duties outside the castle walls.
Instead, she was assigned to stay and watch her grandchildren, Genji and Hanzo.
At first bitter about her placement as a mere caretaker, she grew to love the brothers deeply. When they were young, they got along well. That was a time without pressure, without stress. After much pressing she was even able to become their teacher, training them in the arts that she had learned long ago. They both showed much promise. Things would begin to fall apart quickly, however.
Hanzo grew into a prodigy, a natural leader with the skill to guide the clan. Genji... Well, Kotone could tell he was not interested in the family very much. Occasionally he would sneak out, sometimes she would drag him back, and others... She would let him go. She could relate a bit, wanting to go outside the castle walls. What she was truly concerned about was what would happen if he continued to neglect his chosen life.
Her son, the current leader, died one day. It was a time of sorrow for her. In the midst of her mourning, she hadn't even known what the others had told Hanzo to do. To make his brother obey or to kill him. To lose her son, and then her grandson... It broke Kotone's heart. Hanzo disappeared, and she struggled to keep her clan from falling apart.
Overwatch would soon destroy them. Leaving them a mere shell of what once was. Kotone lost her drive. She had no real will to rebuild her clan. The only thing she feels she can do now is to keep her home safe from intruders.
