Something wakes in the dark. Something stirs in the black. The wind whistles a song, something forgotten a long time ago. This feeling is a sin, that walks up your back and makes you wonder what you've left behind. The wind sings a new tune, he'll have to duck. The arrow buries it's self in the ground behind him. It would have made it's home in his skull. "Who are you that you have manage to find me? I leave no trace," he demanded.
"Neither do I," spoke the old tattered voice. "I'm not looking for you. Not really, a friend told me you used to work for Talon." He was talking to the darkness, somewhere within it was the archer the phantom dragon. Jack had been warned he would shoot first, and it seemed that was right. Two sharp aims, would only lead to a mutual end or a draw.
"A friend." The voice was not so certain.
"He also likes to stay in the dark, he said you worked together; you broke into the Shimada shrine. Your former affiliation, Hanzo Shimada;" might as well drop the info. If he could gain some ground, it would be worth it.
There was a long silence, Jack could almost believe the Archer had gone into the night, he'd been tracking him; waiting for the right moment. He didn't know much about the dragons, but he'd seen Genji in action, if the brothers were anything alike he'd rather Hanzo remain neutral to the Talon engagement if not become an ally.
"Your friend is the one they called Reaper then; and you are Jack Morrison. Did not he kill you?"
"He did. I came back because I had unfinished business."
"Like the thing that wears my brother's name. What do you wish from me then Spirit?"
"I'll take info on Talon, but I'd rather a dragon."
"Only a Shimada can control the dragons."
"Then I guess you know what I'm looking for."
There was further silence. "And...the Reaper is with you? He did not seem to have a wish to rejoin this Overwatch, nor seek forgiveness from you," came the voice after a moment, a hesitation.
"He wouldn't have gotten any anyway. But I'm pretty at forgetting for the moment," Jack replied.
As the heavy quiet drew on and on, Jack was convinced this time the elder Shimada brother had flown. He wasn't sure if this man still had ties, but all the info he found said Hanzo had worked for Talon on contract. He was an assassin after all. The old soldier sighed, about to turn to leave. "You are going? You have not heard my answer," Hanzo snapped, a bit derisively. Impatient fools.
"Considering I can't see you, would be nice to know you're there."
"And leave myself open to attack by a vengeful spirit; that is foolish. A ghost of justice, is not one you stand before without protection," the Shimada huffed. Superstitious, very superstitious.
"At least give me a yes or no, I have shit to do." Jack was getting a little irritated, Gabriel had said the Archer might be willing, that Talon had burned them both. Something about Redemption.
"Proof that the Reaper is with you."
Jack sighed. "Fine," he replied and pulled out a small projector, turning it on. "Live feed of Gabe's room." Yeah he'd come prepared this wasn't his first rodeo. "Satisfied?" He wasn't sure where to look so he glanced around the shadows. Never did like this shadow stuff, sure he was trained in stealth and special ops, but it never felt right.
"No." And Jack had to roll his eyes. "But, it will do." Finally. He heard the softest foot fall, as the Archer came down from whatever perch he'd been on. Huh...he was shorter than the old soldier had anticipated, presence was everything he supposed.
"Good. Have any belongings?"
"No. I am ready to go now." Even better.
Jack waited till Hanzo had at least come to his side before he started walking, better than having his back to him. "This is Morrison, I've secured the Dragon; requesting extraction. Tell Gabriel to meet us in the bay." He requested as the stripped down Overwatch transport hovered down, the night began to disappear as they were flying towards daytime.
