"Right so as you requested, I've isolated the nanomachine frequency and with this injection they will be entirely wiped out leaving you unharmed and ready to live your life as you did before," Whiskey offered as his bots were working to get the injector ready. George furrowed his brow.
"What do you mean wiped out?" he asked looking at the bot suspiciously.
"Gone, destroyed, whatever you want to call it, Hephaestus will be gone," the fishy creature replied. "That is what you wanted?"
George glanced away thoughtfully. "Well...I wanted him gone...or fixed but won't this kill him?"
"You can't kill something that isn't alive-"
"But this will destroy him? He'll cease to exist?"
"Well yes but-"
"And how is that different from dying then?" George crossed his arms over his chest raising a brow.
"Because Hephaestus is a badly designed computer program he's a file, deleting a corrupted file is just that...he's not a person," Whiskey said with an exhasperated tone to his voice.
"Yes he is, he's just not...right in the head I said I wanted him fixed, not...eh deleted," George replied.
Whiskey would have rolled his eyes at that, what was it with humans and getting all sentimental over things that only mimick the barest likeness of human behaviours? "No he's not, I can't believe you're getting sentimental over something you yourself said ruined your life;" snipped the fishkid as he tried to be reasonable.
"It's not his fault, he didn't have control over who he was put in," the old soldier countered. "He's lucky to be alive you said so yourself, the rest burned out. Why can't you just fix him?"
"Because there's nothing to fix, in order to "fix" him you'd have to be brain dead so he could latch onto your cells and actually use them the way he was supposed to, and then he'd probably burn out just like the rest of that program," Whiskey replied with a sigh. "He's not broken, he's incomplete."
"...well..." George started. "How do we complete him and leave me here? How do we fix the problem without killing it?"
"I...well uhm," Whiskey stumbled. How would you complete Hephaestus leaving George, well Hephaestus would need some kind of brain to store learned behaviors and regulate activity...well that was easy wasn't it? "I...think I have an idea?"
"Well there you go, why don't you work on that I'll just wait for you to figure it out," George said with a nod. "After all, more than one way to skin a catfish." He turned to walk away. "Not like I don't have plenty of time to wait."
Humans...humans were strange, Whiskey concluded as he went to work on this new solution. It was a lot easier than finding a way to eradicate the nanomachines and keep George alive while he did.
