Running, heart beating, he had to complete the mission; Jesse needed him! He was breathing hard, seemed like he'd been sprinting for days and never got any closer to his destination. The Well was so far away, always just over the horizon, with figures of his team just out of reach. Talon surrounding them, he'd never make it. This repeated over and over, he was in an endless cycle of failing and waking up to do it again. Why did he never get closer? Things felt so weird, his hands, his legs, even his breathing.
He just kept waking up to that noise. Beep, beep, beep; was it another transmitter? But his head didn't hurt, the noise drove him crazy, it never went away. Constantly, until one failed attempt he heard in his ears along with the beeping, was it a voice? Voices. Wake up again in the grass, in Ilios, the voices were gone. Beep, beep, beep. He stopped running for the figures over the hill. They never got closer, he'd wake up in the same spot every time, voices and beeping.
What could it mean? He had a thought and put his fingers to his throat timing his pulse. Beep, beep, beep. His heartbeat. That was the same as his heartbeat...what beeps like that? A heart monitor. A heart monitor! You're still dreaming, Jack, you've gotta wake up! They need you!
With a start from his hospital bed he reached for a missing sidearm; his eyes needed to adjust to the brightness of the room. "Lucio? Jamie? Jesse!?" he called, he couldn't see anything, where were his weapons? His jacket. He felt over himself...his clothes? He didn't seem to be naked. "Jesse...McCree? Oh god...where are they?" Finally his eyes started to adjust, hospital, but how? They'd been in Ilios, only a few hours right? He was starving.
"Hello?" a weak croak after he'd shouted, his throat felt dry and unused. "hello?"
