Real Name: Ian Kelley
Nickname: None
Age: 49
Nationality: American
Occupation: Former Army combat medic, currently works with military medical research
from a civilian position.
Base of Operations: Maryland, USA
Affiliation: US Army
Voice: New York accent, faded a bit with time but still comes out particularly strong when he’s anxious.
Personality: Highly intelligent, confident and driven in his work, has a bit of a reputation of being a bit hard to work with on some of his projects because of his exacting nature. Outside of work he’s a kind and generous man, but has trouble maintaining friendships and relationships due to deep personal insecurities, PTSD only half treated over the years, and his tendency to try to self-medicate these problems away. Due to his own self-doubt for much of his life he often let others dictate many aspects of his life for him, but it has brought him little happiness. He largely focuses himself into his work in recent years.
Back Story: Born the middle child of four children to a Long Island Irish family he grew up the odd, quiet boy who’d rather bury himself in his books over the more rough-and-tumble activities of his siblings. He had dreams of becoming a doctor, and his studying paid off as he was allowed to start medical classes in his late teens.
A few years in though, the Omnic crisis reached critical levels. Partly due to wanting to help, partly due to hoping to maybe finally make his father proud of him, he joined the Army along with his older brother and served out most of the war as a combat medic. With all of his idealism and desire to help, he wasn’t at all prepared for the realities of war and they left deep marks on the young man.
After the war he tried to come home and settle back into routine, but he struggled with going back to his studies and the life he had before. After a while though he managed to settle into a routine, and at his parent’s encouragement that he should settle down, he married his childhood best friend, Amanda, the one that everyone had said since they were kids they’d end up together. They had a son together, and on the surface it seemed that he had a good life…but he couldn’t shake the feeling that none of it was right, that his life was some kind of elaborate ruse that he had to work at keeping up, haunted by the war and feeling trapped in a life he hadn’t really picked for himself.
After years, he realized he needed to try something different, got a divorce and moved away from New York. He still stays in touch with his family and especially his son however. Currently he works with military medical research, developing ways to help keep people alive better in combat or other emergency situations, something he still feels strongly about, as a way to try to make up for everyone he couldn’t save in the war, as well as giving him things to work on and continuously fill his time with.
