They were on the ship being taken back to the Gibraltar base, he'd brought them all together on a lie didn't he? Some how he'd lied to them, to himself, who the hell was he anyway? He hid his face in his hands, Reaper had been the cause of all this...and yet he wasn't. Gabriel had betrayed them, but he hadn't. Jack was a vigilante who'd survived and was on a quest for justice and vengeance, but he wasn't really. Jack Morrison was dead. He'd died in an explosion that was the result of Gabriel's weakness, his fatal mistake. He'd thought himself invincible, Overwatch immortal, then the explosions had ripped through the base.
Out of the rubble he'd dug where Jack's office had been, no one would have survived that...not even a super soldier; why'd he survived? If only barely, he'd snatched the jacket, and ran. Just ran. There was too much to think about. It seemed to fester as he clothed himself in Jack's life. Recalling every story they'd shared over drinks, every idea of the future as they lay in bed together, weaving it into an identity away from Gabriel Reyes. Delusion. A delusion. He'd gone on a quest of vengeance against himself.
He lay there on the bench as the ship was landing, he could see himself in the reflective surface of the wall. He looked so old didn't he? This was the face he'd assumed he'd see under that mask, what he hoped to see. How could he have not seen it for so many years? Was he that crazy? Was he that obsessed? "Who are you..." he hissed, even his voice was sounding different in his ears. His delusion crumbling around him. Jesse...he'd need to apologize for it all.
Maybe they'd decide to lock him up. He deserved it. He'd destroyed their lives. The doors opened, he'd have to face them. Jack...Jack how had this happened?
