Jack leaned his head back, glancing at the bigger man at the door. Jesus how had it gotten to this point? There was a knife hovering over his throat, what the hell? He looked to the side, at the wildeyed man who had him in such a grip. It was tight, immobilizing. "Jack...just, don't move," George said as he stepped over, little steps at a time, easy and smooth as he could with his limp. "Just keep calm, he won't hurt you if you don't move." He hoped anyway.
The commander had stopped briefly, Ansell had just been sitting in front of his office, looking rather...odd. He was crouched, hyper aware, it was strange. Was he waiting for something? The moment Jack had stepped past him and said a simple 'hello' the wildman was on him, knife to his throat dragging him into the office. He'd smashed the overhead com button, and shouted for George. Then they were here. This tense standoff.
What had he done? Anything? George would probably try to smooth this over but he couldn't keep crazies who were actively murderous around. Jamie was off but he didn't put a knife to people's throats at the drop of a hat. They'd have to go, this was the last straw, Ansell would have to go. George had moved up right close to them.
"Ansell? What's wrong?" he asked carefully. Whats wrong? The knife is what's wrong! Jack stayed very still, there weren't many maneuvers that didn't send this blade into his throat. "Come on, talk to me, you don't have to threaten the Commander."
"...loud. Scared." An attempt to explain. "Lights go...out. Everything dark." He had fled up the stairs because of the big windows, it'd gone dark during the hack and he'd stayed in the light. Where he'd gotten the knife was anyone's guess; but it looked like a Kabar, probably George's a man never left home without a knife. "He come. Threat."
Jack a threat? He'd just said hello...this is what he gets for being friendly.
"Hey he's not a threat; I get it, lights went out, was an attack but it's not Jack's fault, come on. You know this place is safe, there's no reason to get upset," George explained, fingers grabbing hold of the knife blade, avoiding getting cut. "Just, let me have this and we'll go back to the room, you don't have to worry I'm here." The wildman released his hold on the Kabar, and dropped the sheath. Finally he released the commander and ran, George knew this would happen. This was such a stupid idea. He sheathed the knift and sighed. "Sorry."
"He has to go, or you have to do something about that, I can't have a lunatic slitting peoples throats every time the lights go off!" Jack snapped heatedly. "I will not hesitate to lock him up we have cells here for a reason."
"Now...he doesn't mean it, this is confusing; there's a lot of people around he'll get u-"
"No getting used to anything, George, you deal with him or I deal with him, and if I do he's not setting foot back in this building without a straight jacket."
"If he goes, I go, I can't leave him alone; he wanted to help...He's just confused," George tried to counter.
"We have a confused guy who doesn't try to kill people, maybe you're a bit blinded to see he's a little too gone to have around civilized people?" Jack didn't meant to be cruel, but he was in the moment after facing death again.
"Maybe you can shut up, and let me handle this; I didn't even want to come back, I was happy living out my life I was doing you a favor," he snapped back.
"Well maybe I didn't figure this favor would come with have my throat slit;"
They were both a bit too hot under the collar to deal with this problem, and George had to go find Ansell before he got into any more trouble. "I'm not done with this, we'll talk later."
"You don't get to say that! I'm the commander here."
"Yeah well some commanding you're doing." The naval man finally left, taking a deep breath. He couldn't be angry when he found Ansell, it was definitely harder than it sounded to release the stress.
