Tick, tock, tick, tock
But what is the sound that time makes?

He tilted his head, staring at the holoscreen, webbed fingers playing over it, he heard disturbance. A glance over and he noticed an outline, one of his bots.
"Tick tock, tick tock; But what is the sound that time makes?" It said, eyes reflecting a red light, the creature in the tank narrowed his eyes. time didn't make a sound, it wasn't a physical thing that could create waves in matter. His head hurt, there was a ringing in the back of his head, disconnect...disconnect. He escaped to the back of the tank, letting the glass fog over. "Tick tock, tick tock; But what is the sound that time makes?" He rubbed his scalp, nothing had ever leaped like that from machine to him. He was organic, he couldn't be infected by machine based viruses. It shouldn't effect him. Alarms, holoscreens flashed up, environment compromised, venting atmosphere, he couldn't let this effect him. He had to fix this. He brought up his screens and went to use his mind to directly interface, it would be faster. There was that pain. No, no he couldn't do that.
"Athena? Athena!" He shouted, the synthesizers garbled what he was trying to say. What if they'd already gotten to her anyway? He took a deep breath.
/Environment compromised./ He was reminded by a stupid voice. He had to use his hands, he began to type hastily, bringing his feet up to help. He traced through his systems ripping apart files and quarantining everything he could find. He was running out of time he could feel it getting hard to breath, Oxygen was leaking in he was going to be poisoned. Keep going.
"Tick Tock, Tick Tock, but what is the sound that time makes?" That was louder, more of his machines had been compromised. He ripped out their connection to the tank, sending a kill command to the entire lot, the noise of heavy metal thuds as they fell over. He restored his environment, already dizzy having trouble focusing, if he could do this then stasis he'd be alright. There it was quarantined bound up in a discreet little bundle. He'd need to individually go through and restore the machines to before they were infected removing former mirrors.
He dropped the quarantined program into a virtual machine with no access to Athena or his systems. They could study it from an independent location where it couldn't hurt anything, but for now he needed to sleep while his environment was reestablished.
Too close, but how'd they even manage to do it? He wasn't able to touch it with his mind, this would require further study. Tick tock, tick tock, but what is the sound that time makes? He would have to source and figure out that puzzle another time.
