Personality:
Yana has a two great hatreds in the world, Germans who she still bears a grudge against from their actions in World War 2 and the Omni forces fighting against her beloved Russia. She tends to smile often for a woman who has been through so much conflict, some believe too often. Yana dislikes being in crowds, cowards and mathematics. She possesses a incredibly dark sense of humour, loves many kinds of cheeses and she enjoys being up somewhere high.
She prefers to be outside in the wild places rather than in a city, cities remind her too much of the Great Patriotic War and she wants to leave that part of her past in the past. She pretends to enjoy playing the role of hero, but in truth wants only to create peace in the world. Yana enjoys the stories of Overwatch, though does not know what to truly think of them.
Back Story:
Yana was born the poor daughter of a Russian farmer in 1925, in 1936 she and her father moved to Stalingrad on the Volga as part of Stalin's mass forced improvement of the Russian Industrial Capacity. Yana Zaitsev proved to be little more than an average student, though a devoted member of the youth communist groups.
Yet it would not be till she was fifteen when Yana was selected by a top secret USSR science division, OND. OND selected forcibly young teenagers and adults for a classified experiment in order to create super soldiers capable of forging soldiers capable of protecting the USSR from any aggressors.
Only nine percent of the candidates would survive the cruel experiments conducted upon those unfortunate 'volunteers'. Yana was among those who survived, she found herself blessed with dark unnatural powers. She could react far fast than that of a normal human, allowing her to place shots with her rifle with a supernatural precision. Yet this speed came at a price, her metabolism increased to five times that of a ordinary human and she was unable to find herself comfortable in crowds, the movement kept drawing her eyes, like that of a predatory bird. It was all too much for her to handle.
Yet the USSR did not need her to tolerate crowds, they needed her to kill.
At age seventeen she was deployed back to her home, Stalingrad. Here she hunted down the soldiers of the German army, rapidly scoring a high tally of confirmed killed, 302 and a further 209 unconfirmed. After the German capitulation at Stalingrad, she took part in dozens of other battles and operations against the Reich.
By the times of the war's end she had turned twenty and long since lost track of the amount of lives she took. However for all her years of service, she was betrayed by the USSR, frozen in stasis in a secret facility in 1946 along with the other handful of surviving heroes so that should the USSR need them they could be called upon.
Unfortunately that day never came, the USSR passed and all knowledge of the secret facility was eventually lost, buried in Russian red tape and bureaucracy. Yana was only recently discovered by Russian Federation Soldiers who stumbled across a rusting USSR base. Inside the facility they found most of the pods either empty or broken.
All except one, Yana's pod remained active, with the Second Omni Crisis raging the RFA made the difficult choice. They decided to reactive Yana to once more fight to save the Russian people against a enemy.
So Yana rose once more, though initially struggled to cope with the disorientation and cultural shock. She soon joined the fight against the machines, Yana slowly starting to take a toll on the Omni forces invading Russia. The Russian Media were delighted with the appearance of a hero amongst the ranks of it's soldiers, the people named her 'Maverick' and despite her being the ghost from a dark place in history, she captured the hearts of many Russians.
