And Was It The End? [Poetry]

I watched, as earth is seared.
Cauterized, salted, and shaken.
A wound dug deep into her flesh.

I watched.

I saw it all, from the flying car.
The world was split by light.
As hell screamed forth unto the land.

I screamed.

My voice drowned out by thunder.
No sound escaped it's oppressive roar.
Perhaps my eardrums had ruptured.

I stood.

Confused, in awe of mans destructive force.
Was this the end of mankind?
How my brain rattled with fear.

I ran.

There was no stopping, only breathing.
Legs pounding on the hot stone.
What chased me was terror and terror alone.

I wept.

What had I lost?
I could not conceptualize the idea of the end.
Was this the wrath of god?

I fell.

Down steps of concrete, closing the door.
I curled up and in the dark I was safe.
Outside was oblivion, terror, madness.

I slept.

Through the end of the world.
My life over what could a few moments hurt?
Closed my eyes and felt empty.
