"we love you, Jamie, we only want to see you succeed and blah blah blah..."
He'd been replaying that parting conversation in his head over and over in the back of the cab that was currently transporting him to the middle of scenic nowhere, hollow words meant to pull a cover over the real reason for this. Jamison had always been a troubled kid, always fighting, always the victim of bullying that never got punished, always the bad kid that teachers warned other teachers about, be careful of that one, he's a bad kid. Of course, no one bothered to pull back the layer of glitter and glam to see the reality of the situation, it was much easier to just pass him off as a monster, a nightmare, a little psycho, and his parents played their roles perfectly as well.
No one would have ever suspected that the most charming, wealthy people in his town beat the daylights out of their child on the daily, no one questioned the bruises and cuts, assuming they just came from fighting, because Jamie was a bad kid. No one noticed the way he flinched when someone raised their voice or hands at him, only that he reacted to everything with hostility and aggression. No one saw anything in him but a bad kid, so that was exactly what he gave them, he gave them the biggest nightmare they'd ever seen, he'd become a terrible little hellion because that was all anyone saw in him anyway, it was easier than acknowledging the scars and heavy burdens he was already carrying at only 14.
He was pulled from his thoughts when the cab pulled to a stop, sliding out of the car with the small bag he'd brought with him, it couldn't have carried more than a week of clothes, but it was all he had. There was a dark look to his face as he looked around, becoming immediately aware of just how isolated and alone it was here. He'd already decided that he hated this place.
